Vision Statement
Through Comus' sustainable pozzolan products, immediate solutions are available to the cement industry to reduce as much as 50% of the CO2 emissions released by the manufacturing of Portland cement.
Who We Are
In 1966, the Woodsboro Quarry began when Lehigh Portland Cement Company purchased and developed the land. In 1977, Lehigh was acquired by Heidelberg Cement. They continued to produce a high-quality pozzolan and lightweight aggregate that was used both in the local concrete market and was even shipped as far as China for use in the Yellow River Dam - the largest pozzolan cement project in history.
In 2008, the Quarry was acquired by the Comus Organization. Unlike when the quarry began processing pozzolan by the use of kilns that burned fossil fuels, a plan for a more sustainable solution was developed for the repurposing of the plant and mines. The repurposing operations of the old plant continue, while the redevelopment of the mining operation was completed in September of 2021.
